The Skibladner is the oldest still operating steam paddler in the world with scheduled services. The boat made its first voyage in 1865, at first to connect Gjøvik, Hamar, and Lillehammer with Eidsvoll, because it already had a train station. Skibladner is named after the ship of Freyr, who was a god in Norwegian mythology. When it is not sailing, the boat is moored at Gjøvik on the western shore of the lake. From mid-June to mid-August the Skibladner provides sailings on Mjøsa.
Tip You can use the Skibladner as an outing, to skip some kilometres of cycling by sailing directly to Lillehammer, or you can cross Mjøsa to Hamar and continue on the east route. You can take the bike with you and on presentation of your pilgrim passport you get a significant discount. The current timetable can be found on Skibladner.no.
