The Fryksdalsleden and its associated website page are still under development for cyclists. The route is not part of Via Gaia and has not (yet) been verified by me. This will take place in the summer of 2026. A GPX track is not available, but you may be able to manage with this route description, taken from the Swedish-language website of the Fryksdalsleden.
Thee Route
- Distance: 99 km.
- Start: in Kil
- End: in Torsby
- The route is signposted with Fryksdalsleden signs, but these are for walkers. The cycle route deviates from this occasionally.
- GPX track is not (yet) available.
- Road surface: asphalt and gravel.
- Difficulty: easy.
- Best season: mid-May to late September.
- Type of bicycle: a mountain bike or sturdy trekking bike. Wide tyres are recommended (at least 37 mm).
- Crowds: most of the route is on low-traffic roads and car-free paths
Route Description
In principle, follow the markings of the pilgrim route. Deviations for cyclists are described below:
Eastern Amtervik - Sunne
The section between Herresta Gård and the north towards the gravel road in Arvidstorp is accessible for cyclists, but for your safety you are routed through the courtyard of Herresta. An alternative is to cycle along the country road.
Sunne - Ivarsbjörke
From Sunne and the north you cycle on both gravel and asphalt, but mainly on old forest roads. At Ingmår, the pilgrim path for walkers turns left, over the Askerudsberg. This path can only be cycled if you have a mountain bike, as you travel for just over 2 km across tree roots and stones. Cyclists are best advised to continue following the asphalt road through Ingmår and then turn left towards the old ruins. Follow the small gravel road to join the Fryksdalsleden where the path descends from the mountain. The remainder of this section consists of alternating asphalt, gravel and forest paths.
Ivarsbjörke – Lysvik
Cycle straight ahead on the main road instead of making a detour to Strandvik/Kårud.
Lysvik-Bada
Follow the road instead of turning off at the gravestones.
Train
A railway line also runs along the entire route. Bicycles are permitted on this train service for SEK 20.00.
